What an all-access pass actually buys

Chukka Ocean Outpost sits on the water at Sandy Bay, west of the city. The pass removes the usual problem with an adventure day, which is choosing: instead of booking one activity and wondering about the others, you get the run of the park and decide as you go.

That suits mixed groups better than almost anything else on this coast. The teenager rides the zipline, the grandparent takes the catamaran, and everyone meets at the pool.

Horseback ride 'n' swim

You ride along the shore first, then the saddles come off and the horses walk into the sea with you on them. It is calmer than it sounds — the animals do this every day and the guides lead throughout.

Minimum age is six, and there is a 230 lb weight limit for this one activity, which is lower than the park's other limits.

The ocean zipline, the ATV safari and the truck safari

The zipline runs over the water rather than through trees, which makes for a very different set of photographs. The ATV safari heads inland on the park's own trails. The truck safari is the no-adrenaline option, and it is genuinely scenic.

The ATV and the dune buggy need a rider of sixteen with a valid driving licence in hand. Bring it. Without it you can still do everything else, but not those two.

Two boats, two moods

The party catamaran comes with Jamaican rum punch and an onboard DJ. The sail-and-snorkel catamaran is the quieter one, and it is where the mask earns its keep. Both are inside the pass, and on a long-enough visit you can take both.

Kayaks and paddleboards are on the beach for anyone who would rather move under their own steam. What the park does not have is a waterfall: the Blue Hole and the falls at Ocho Rios are a separate day, two hours east.

Who this suits — and who should book one boat instead

Book this if you are a group or a family with teenagers, you want a full day without a schedule, and the idea of choosing between a zipline and a catamaran annoys you.

Book something else if you only want the water. Meeting point and pickup timing

Complimentary collection runs from hotels across Montego Bay and Negril, and the park itself is at Sandy Bay on the coast west of the city.

The time you choose at checkout is your arrival at the park, not your pickup. Collection starts 30 to 90 minutes earlier depending on how far out your hotel is, and the reservations team confirms your window directly. Watch for that message.

Know before you go

• Bring your driving licence if you want to drive the ATV or the buggy. No licence, no ride.
• Closed-toe shoes and a full-length top are required, not advisory.
• Lockers cost about $10 on site. Carry small notes.
• Food and drink at the restaurant are extra. Budget for lunch or eat before you go.
• Water activities depend on the sea. If conditions close them the land side still runs, and free cancellation covers you up to 24 hours ahead.
• Peak times get busy. Arriving on the earlier pickup window buys you a quieter first hour.
